What We Do
Global Footprint Network is changing how the world measures and manages its natural resources to create a sustainable future.
Every year people demand more from nature than it can regenerate. Leaders in government and finance come to Global Footprint Network looking for guidance on how to take action to better manage limited resources, reduce economic risk, and improve well-being. We do this by translating data into insights that drive practical decisions. This starts with metrics that track how resources are measured and used. Then we empower clients to frame opportunities and make confident policy and investment decisions backed by facts.
Join us in creating a future where people, planet, and economies thrive.
To do this work, the following are underlying core values for individual employees and the organization:
|Impact||We make positive change.|
|Collaborate||We work across different domains as a team of change agents.|
|Empower||We empower our team members, clients and partners with resources to make effective decisions.|
|Quality||We value integrity, reliability, excellence and scientific rigor.|
|Innovate||We prize innovation, curiosity and problem solving.|
|Intentional||We work consciously and purposefully to carry out our mission.|
|Wow||We deliver spectacular results.|
Who We Are
Footprint Network is an international organization with our headquarters based in Oakland, California, an office in Geneva, Switzerland and representatives in other parts of the world. Our team consists of a range of research scientists, economists, analysts, program leaders, fundraisers, and operations and communications professionals. It is a culturally diverse environment with individuals committed to working on issues of global importance.
The Oakland Office
Collegial, open-plan office in Oakland is located two blocks from Jack London Square and is accessible by bicycle, BART, bus, train and ferry. Our free, communal lunches are light-hearted and often delicious. Yoga classes, massage therapist sessions and walks along the waterfront are available to staff and interns. Employees receive health, dental, vision and life insurance and can contribute to a 403(b) plan. We also offer commuter benefits and opportunities for professional development. We are committed to diversity in the workplace.
Internships in Oakland
We are currently accepting applications for fall internships in our Oakland office that will begin in August 2016.
Internships at Global Footprint Network are great opportunities to build on existing skills and interests of college students in the area of sustainability and global resource and energy issues. They are especially valuable for students who want to apply their academic knowledge to real world experiences. In the past, skills developed during internships helped students with admission into graduate school and provided students with new career possibilities.
Every four months we bring on a new cohort of interns in three primary areas: research, communications and fundraising. After receiving training, interns work on individual projects. Successful applicants will be motivated, responsible self-starters and able to work with minimum direction. Desired previous experience includes: computer programming, input/output analysis, life cycle assessment, international bonds, writing and fundraising. We are especially interested in applicants from diverse backgrounds.
While these are unpaid positions, we provide a small stipend to interns. Full time interns are preferred and the minimum commitment would be for 16 hours per week for 12 weeks. We are willing to work with a university to arrange academic credit. Hours are flexible. Free, healthy lunches are provided daily.
Please see the internship announcements below for more details.
