Partner Network
Finnish Ministry of the Environment
The Finnish Ministry of the Environment (MoE) is responsible for ensuring that the environmental perspective is given proper consideration in international cooperation and society, and at all levels of government.
Partner Profile
The MoE formulates environmental policies, carries out strategic planning, and is responsible for the coordination of Sustainable Development policies and processes. The secretariat of the Finnish National Commission on Sustainable Development is located in the MoE.
MoE oversees the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), which serves as the national center for environmental information and data in Finland. SYKE cooperates with Global Footprint Network to conduct Ecological Footprint research. In 2005, SYKE carried out a pilot project to report on the methods used to calculate the forest sector of Finland's Ecological Footprint index, providing some important clarifications. In 2008 the Finnish Ministry for the Environment and the Finnish Environment Institute released a full review and 're-calculation' of Finland's Ecological Footprint.
