Environmentalist Peter Seidel, who has authored two non-fiction books dealing with human demand on nature, takes a different approach for exploring the consequences of ecological consumption with a new novel out in paperback, 2045: A Vision of Our Future.
The book offers a fictional exploration of what our world will look like in thirty-five years if current trends, including the depletion of natural resources and the dumping of carbon into the atmosphere, continue un-checked. Seidel conjures up a world in which large swathes of the western United States are a desert, cars are a luxury only the very wealthy can afford, and government and the press are in the thrall of a small number of multinational corporations. This novel sparks readers to envision the outcomes of our current levels of resource use, and to effect positive change before it is too late.
