A very interesting new application of footprint analysis has been developed by Tommie Wiedmann, Manfred Lenzen and John Barrett.  Using one common and consistent accounting and reporting scheme based on economic input−output analysis, extended with data from all three dimensions of sustainability, it allows quantification of the triple bottom line by corporations.  See “Companies on the Scale:Comparing and Benchmarking the Footprints of Businesses” in the Journal of Industrial Ecology, volume 13, #3.
