The Post Growth Institute, an international group that explores sustainable paths to global prosperity, has a new website that upends popular definitions of wealth and enrichment.
Inspired by Forbes magazine’s annual Rich List, Post Growth’s (En)Rich List questions the media’s infatuation with monetary wealth, while celebrating 100 intellectuals, economists, scientists and others who have devoted their lives to advancing social equity and ecological sustainability.

E.F. Schumacher headed the Top 100 list, which also included Evo Morales, Rachel Carson, Mahatma Gandhi, and Henry David Thoreau. Global Footprint Network President Mathis Wackernagel was Number 19 on the list; Susan Burns, Vice President of Global Footprint Network, was included among honorable mentions.
“There are additional ways ‘richness’ can play out, be measured and be celebrated beyond how much material or monetary wealth an individual possesses,” said Dr. Donnie Maclurcan, Co-Director of the Post Growth Institute. “The people on this list represent wealth that cannot be defined by a dollar value.”
Know anyone you think should have been—but wasn’t—counted among the Top 100? Go to the site and register. Post Growth says it hopes to turn over future nomination processes and voting to the public.
