Global Footprint Network 2004 Summer Internship

We are seeking an intern to assist with a range of organizational and project work. Current graduate, MBA, and advanced undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Depending on their skill set and interests, interns may work on building network partnerships, outreach, supporting Footprint projects, and enhancing the web site. They will also help run and develop the administrative functions of the organization. The intern will work closely with all staff, which include experienced environmental business consultants and Dr. Wackernagel, co-creator of the Ecological Footprint.

Applicants are expected to be motivated, reliable, responsible, and able to be self-starters. Applicants should be interested in sustainability, global resource issues, ecological economics, and resource analysis. A background in one of the following or related areas is preferred: business (especially current MBA students), ecology, environmental science, earth systems, urban planning, resource management.

Key Qualifications and Responsibilities

  • Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent Excel and computer skills and strong quantitative abilities. Understanding of principles of economics and basic statistics preferred.
  • Administrative abilities - Including organizing information, arranging meetings, supporting meetings, assisting with correspondence.
  • Outreach - Updating contact database, overseeing production and mailing of materials, coordination and promotion of events.
  • Interest in helping businesses and governments move toward sustainability.
  • Optional: Web skills and knowledge of HTML or Dreamweaver in order to assist with website development and maintenance.
  • Optional: Computer skills to assist with office computing needs, such as maintenance, software setup, sending mailings, troubleshooting, and IT upgrades.

Individuals who feel they can make a positive contribution to the Footprint Network by bringing a different combination of skills are also encouraged to apply.

Time and Compensation
Internships are for Summer 2004. We prefer full time interns, though a part-time arrangement may be possible. Minimum commitment is 32 hours per week for three months. Hours are flexible. Gourmet healthy lunches daily. Compensation meager, but negotiable. We are willing to work with a university to arrange academic credit.
