Implementing SDGs at the national level: Montenegro’s National Strategy for Sustainable Development until 2030
Eye on Earth Webinar

In September 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was approved at the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Summit; this was followed by the approval, in March 2016, of a global framework of 241 SDG indicators. Within this global context, and under the coordination of the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Montenegro embarked in the revision of its National Strategy for Sustainable Development (NSSD until 2030), which was centered on the SDGs. Montenegro became one of the first UN member countries to conduct a national review of its sustainable development planning process to enable implementing the global Agenda 2030 within the national policy context.

This webinar will describe the NSSD until 2030 preparation process, discuss how the global SDGs were transposed for use at the national level, describe the NSSD monitoring and reporting framework that was set up and finally discuss next steps for NSSD implementation. We believe that learning from this process will prove useful for other nations interested in implementing the SDGs nationally, and operationalizing them within the national governance context.

Speakers include:

Alessandro Galli — Senior Scientist and Mediterranean Program Director, Global Footprint Network
Jelena Knezevic — Head of Division Sustainable Development and Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Government of Montenegro
