About Global Footprint Network
Our mission is to promote a sustainable economy by advancing the Ecological Footprint, a measurement tool that makes the reality of planetary limits relevant to decision-makers.

Calgary Personal Calculator Launched

Global Footprint Network has launched the latest addition to its popular Ecological Footprint calculator with data specific to Calgary, Canada. Click here to take the quiz.

Users walk an avatar through a Calgary cityscape, answering questions about their consumption and lifestyle habits. At the end of the quiz they learn how much of the earth’s resources it takes to support their lifestyle and what they can do to get closer to living within the means of our one planet.  The Calgary version includes new, updated features to the Footprint calculator, including separate versions for kids and adults and detailed question and answer fields.

The application was launched in partnership with City of Calgary as part of the city’s Eco Footprint Project, an ambitious project to understand and measurably reduce the city’s Ecological Footprint. The project involves promoting a more resource-efficient future through policy, planning and infrastructure decisions as well as through individual action.

“The ability to understand how we consume the earth’s natural resources and manage waste we produce, all within a local context is a powerful motivator for action,” says City of Calgary Environmental Specialist Patrick Inglis. “Calgary’s new Ecological Footprint Calculator provides a valuable tool to measure your Footprint, analyze the results and take action that is measurable, meaningful and relevant, both locally as well as globally.”

Global Footprint Network is inviting corporate, government, and NGO partners to help expand the calculator to include additional features and locations.  Please contact Meredith Stechbart,, if you would like to be involved or would like the calculator customized for your organization.
