Global Footprint Network is pleased to announce the launch of a new research collaboration with the United Arab Emirates. The collaboration involves multiple stakeholders across the nation working together to improve the UAE’s National Footprint Accounts data and apply Ecological Footprint analysis to national policy in order to create a resource-conscious and resource-efficient nation.
Global Footprint Network’s Mathis Wackernagel visited Dubai in October to launch the initiative with a technical workshop for over 150 attendees from government, municipalities, corporate organizations, and NGOs, as well as researchers from educational institutions and staff from foreign embassies. The initiative, called Al Basama Al Beeiya (Ecological Footprint), is led by the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi. Other project partners include the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW), the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI), the Emirates Wildlife Society, and WWF.

I am currently working and living in Dubai. I am also studying for a Bachelors Degree in Environmantal Studies with The Open University from the UK.
As part of my current course I have to undertake a Project and I would like to centre my Project on “The Greening of Dubai”. In this project I would like to highlight the initiatives being taken by the government to reduce the carbon footprint of the UAE and DUbai in particular. I am struggling to find both baseline data and current data that I could use to highlight the progress being made. Would it be possible for yourselves to let me have either some of your data or identify areas where I may be able to obtain data for my use. Please note that any data obtained willbe strictly controlled and only seen by myself, my tutor, and the academic who marks the Project.
