About the Global Footprint Network
Our mission is to promote a sustainable economy by advancing the Ecological
Footprint, a measurement tool that makes the reality of planetary limits
relevant to decision-makers.
Standards and National Accounts Committees
One of the fundamental goals of Global Footprint Network is to support
standardization of Ecological Footprint applications, in order to create
a globally consistent way of measuring sustainability. We view this
mundane-sounding work an essential foundation for the Ecological Footprint
to achieve its potential as a key sustainability tool. We are pleased
to announce an important step towards accomplishing this goal.
---------------------
With its partners, the Network has created a Charter that calls for the
establishment of three committees:
a National Accounts Committee, to ensure that the basic data supporting
all Footprint analyses reflects the best current scientific thinking;
an Application Standards Committee, to promote comparability and
consistency of sub-national Footprint analyses; and
a Communication Standards Committee, to encourage accurate and unbiased
reporting of Footprint results.
Our committees, which will begin their activities shortly, will bring
together the expertise of our partners, our Science and Policy Advisory
Council, and the larger community of policymakers and scientists.
