Reducing the Footprint in the Retail Sector
Global Footprint Network has just launched, with partners
EPA Victoria,
The GPT Group (one of Australia's biggest property groups), and Lend Lease Retail, a calculator that uses the Footprint to help retailers to make better building design choices. An exciting example: GPT is now building a next generation shopping center called
Rouse Hill with an Ecological Footprint 19% less than a conventional shopping center. GPT estimates that by using the calculator, its retail tenants can also reduce their construction and operationational Footprint by up to 40%.
---------------------
At the launch,
Victoria Minister for Environment John Thwaites lauded the tool, noting "...by considering the principles of the Ecological Footprint in building design and fit-out, we can substantially reduce the environmental impact of our built environment."
Global Footprint Network is inviting other developers and retail companies to join us in customizing the calculator for other retailers. Please
contact us for more information.
