VIRTUAL EVENT: Approaching climate with heart and teeth

Waiting for global consensus is a fragile climate strategy. This has become even more apparent since the Ukraine conflict. More effective is to recognize that the future context in which we will operate has never been more predictable: people will all want to eat, have shelter, be safe. Also, they will live in a world with a wilder climate, fewer natural resources, and no fossil fuel – in any imaginable scenario. The resource-constrained future is arriving faster than cities, companies or countries are adapting. Acting swiftly is becoming essential, because retrofitting physical infrastructure requires time. Those who hesitate with their transition are exposed to far larger risks.

Addressing climate with a resource security lens therefore becomes promising. Here, Abigail Robinson, a security specialist, Maja Groff, a climate-governance lawyer, and Mathis Wackernagel, a sustainability expert, explore with the workshop participants how to give this lens heart and teeth.

Speakers:
Mathis Wackernagel, Global Footprint Network
President Maja Groff, Climate Governance Commission Convenor
Abigail Robinson, DCAF, Advisor
